Hello,

Does anyone have any building experience with foundations for manufactured homes? From what I've seen on the internet, even the engineered footing systems that qualify for FHA foundation status just look like fancy versions of the old cinder-block deal. They may clamp onto the I-beam like glue, but what connects them to the ground? They do not appear to be sunk 9'-12' into the ground like a traditional pier and beam foundation from what I can tell. What would keep a tornado from lifting one of these homes away?

To answer your question,"What would keep a tornado from lifting one of these homes away?".... Nothing. If you are in the path of a tornado, you need to get into the
protection of an adequate storm shelter. Whether you live in a MH or site built
home, tornadoes really don't care.

Here in Bama, we have enough of them that a lot of people have storm pits that
they go to when a tornado is coming their way. You can have one put in from
$2500 - $10,000, depending on what you are looking for size wise. That's most
likely a lot less than a hospital stay or the cost of funeral. Just my 2 cents.
