Replacing faucets

Does anyone have the type of faucet where it's made a permanent part of the sink because of something that's been glued or cemented or whatever onto the connection underneath the faucet? I was going to change my faucet out to get one with more clearance, and when I went to unscrew the hot/cold connections underneath, there's no way to undo them without taking the whole sink out. I'd just like to know if this is common and if that's my only solution. I've owned another manufactured home which was just like a house and had no problem replacing anything.
