My mother is wanting to replace her bathtub with a shower stall. The space available is 28"x54"

We have been told that the smallest shower they make is 32"x32"

Does anyone know if this is true or where we can get a shower that is no wider than 28 inches. She doesn't mind it being rectangular shaped.

Thanks!

Showers with these dimensions are available, but not at your local home centers. You need to contact a mobile home supplier in your area. They can supply you with either a square or rectangular unit, going to as large as a 27 x 54.

Fiberglass stall showers are built to fit in the same area as a tub/shower combination or in the same area as a "tub only". The major problem that is encountered in the replacement of these type of fiberglass stall showers is that the one-piece units will not fit through your normal door openings and either an outside wall has to be cut or a couple of doorways have to be enlarged, to allow the unit to be removed and the new one to be installed. Either way it is not a job for your regular homeowner. This is one case where a contractor is definitely needed. There are some units available that are built in two sections and can be assembled in the space available, but a seam will be obvious and of course it will need to be constantly cleaned to avoid the mold & mildew buildup. Good luck!
