Stiffening up bouncy floors?

Post by Cato » Fri Apr 06, 2018 7:15 am

I am remodeling my 1987 14x60 MH, and would like to do something about the bouncy floors. When my tiny 2 year old walks through the hall I can feel it shake in the living room!

The floor structure is 2x6 on 16” centers in good condition
I just put in 3/4” T&G engineered subfloor
There are cinderblock “piers” supporting the steel beams every 10” or so

So, has anyone had success in stiffening up/removing bounce from 2x6 floors? Blocking? Additional cinder block supports under metal beams? I saw that Bob Vila likes to put a 2x4 flat on the bottom edge of floor joists to stiffen them up, but I’m not sure if that will work since the steel beams are such that the 2x4 would only go across the center 9’ or so of the joists.

Any advice?
