attic ventilation
attic ventilation
i am looking at a new Sunshine m/home. my one concern is the eaves only overhang about 2 or 3inches. i inquired about ventilation & the salesperson said they all have complete house ventilation / aka a fan i assume. is this sufficient ? everything else about this brand seems to be a ok. but i am concerned about the shortness of the eaves and lack of space to draw air. i thought of putting a gable vent at either end but read you can overdo vents. i have read both of John Grissams books. this home is rated a 6 along with Platinium & Deer Valley.. these are my top 3 choices, which do you think is best in structure ? any suggestions / help much appreciated. Thank you

Re: attic ventilation
Mechanical roof venting is fairly common in HUD units, the two most common systems being Nordyne's Vent-aire and Coleman's Blend Air.Your retailer will be able to supply you with the manufacturer's specifications on how these sysytems work. Both Nordyne and Coleman have specification pamphlets available. They come in every package that contains the vent system.
Re: attic ventilation
The statement below referencing HUD and HVAC is a Serious Problem, Unfiltered / Unconditioned Outside Air pulled directly into your new Fan Housing and Ducts contaminating everything. Fix Required plumbing in a fresh-air filter to catch the big stuff, correctly sealing/reinstalling air-handler, adding a second 20x20 plenum filter grate so system can accept a quality Air Filter, and (not at my expense) replace attic duct for acceptable air flow.
The only good part, I was able to pull my wires for my ceiling mounted surround sound speakers while there were holes cut all thru my new roof. When pulling wires thru internal walls, they are only 2x3’s.
I had the same concerns and you will find attic ventilation to be the least of your problems. My research and opinion; there is no efficiency advantage whether attic is sealed (vaulted ceilings) or vented (because of insufficient dead air space).
Attic Importance and Caution; (1) Inadequate Insulation, (2) Roof Leaks, (3) Attic HVAC Duct Installation (avoid flex duct in attic, places void where insulation should be). These repairs will be at your expense because there is no way for you to inspect prior to delivery. Tools; IR inferred gun, moisture meter. Construction Hints; extend roof width by adding 2x? along roof line, gutters.
Good luck, Don
