Company or manufacturer's problem??
Company or manufacturer's problem??
Ok, here we go! In October, my finace and I went to a mobile home dealer here in South Louisiana and ordered our house. After being told we would have it delivered in 3-4 weeks, it was almost three months. But, as long as we had it, we blew it off. The day it came in, they called me to go inspect it to make sure everything was right before they delivered it to our property. Well, about an hour after they called, I headed up there. Ten minutes after I left, my mother in law called to say that they were pulling up to the property with the trailer. After they finished setting it up, I asked them not to leave until I walked through it to make sure nothing was really wrong so that they couldn't put the blame on us (I've worked for many attorney and have seen MANY cases where this happened to people.) Well, I noticed that our back door didn't close, the screen door in the front wasn't lined up right and wouldn't close entirely. I told the man and he said he would have to call the owner of the company (who was conveniently the man we went through to purchase the house) because they don't do that kind of work. The next day I did a walk through of the house to make a list of anything else that was wrong: the color of the siding, the color of the shutters, half of our windows will not open, screen door wont shut all the way, none of the bedroom doors will close completely, my daughter's bathroom sink doesn't work, accent wall in the living room had nails sticking out of it and big white patches every inch or so along the entire wall (the wall is a dark brown), insulation coming over the moldings, linoleum was bubbling, a few parts of the floor creak really bad, back door didn't close, and we didn't have house keys. Note: this was less than 24 hours after being delivered. So, I brought the list up to the company. My husband told him not to worry about the little things like the accent wall and bedroom doors because he could fix it (which I wasn't happy with. If you spend sixty-thousand dollars on a house, EVERYTHING should be the way you ordered it) but to please come and fix the back door. Well, three months later, and after 209820947 phone calls, they finally sent someone to fix the back door. I was here when they came and watched what they were doing; they took a flathead screwdriver and a hammer and chipped out the wood and left. Well, after they ran out of here, I noticed that they still had a gap at the top of the door, big enough to see the sunlight. Called the company to tell themm but had to leave a message. This was the first week in April. Well, I go to walk to our backyard to spraypaint something and notice that the plate for the lightswitches right by the wall is completely OFF THE WALL. The crack in the door was causing the rain to come inside when it would rain and getting into the walls. The entire wall is soft and smells. I look on the outside of the door and there is mold covering the frame. The floor under the wall is also really soft. I have called these mother rippers 17 times since April and they have done NOTHING!! So, now, we have mold and I'm not sure how much or how far it has gotten in the walls. Lastly, we had a bunch of rain today. I walked into my daughter's bathroom and notice that there is water ALL OVER THE FLOOR. Look up, there's water dripping from the vent on the ceiling. I don't know what course of action I should or need to take but I'm exhausted.
Re: Company or manufacturer's problem??
Sounds like you bought the home from the keystone cops..Most of your initial list were set up problems but seems like they do not exactly have much ability..Sooner or later you might need one of those attorneys you mentioned but first you should communicate with the factory yourself directly AND file a complaint with your state agency who enforces the rules. They are here;
State Fire Marshal's Office
5150 Florida Boulevard
Baton Rouge,LA 70806
(225) 925 - 4911
(225) 925 - 3699
Call them they will come inspect the home for violations and ORDER action by the manufacturer, dealer pr set up crew..
Sorry for your problems..Good Luck....

Re: Company or manufacturer's problem??
What are keystone cops haha?! I will definately call them in the morning. Thank you for your quick response. I am by far a money hungry lady but I don't see what else to do. My fiance works offshore and I deal with almost all of this stuff. But, to an older man, a 24 year old girl isn't too smart. Well, I have news for them! By communicating with the factory, you're talking about the company that built it? I'm sorry, I have an infant who's been sick and haven't been getting much sleep!
Re: Company or manufacturer's problem??
I am sorry about the keystone cop reference. They were quite a bit before your time. Older readers here will know the term.. Basically they were useless cops who could never catch the crooks..I did mean the company who built it. Your owners manual will have the number and procedure. It will also have the state agency and number to call. Remember the factory is NOT responsible for set up problems, the set crew is. The state agency has power over all 3, factory, dealer, set crew...The state will NOT get into colors and contract issues. These are civil matters to be dealt with in court..Take care of that baby first..then you..then this problem..
