Faulty Hardboard Siding on a 1984 Destiny Mobile Home

Post by [email protected] » Thu Mar 24, 2011 8:57 pm

Do you know what kind of hardboard siding was used on 1984 Destiny Mobile Homes? Could you tell me if there is a lawsuit against Destiny or the manufacturer of the siding used on the homes? I first saw this mobile home in 1993 and the siding was already showing terrible deterioration. Please reply ASAP. My husband and I rent this mobile home out to a family and we could really use some financial help to repair or replace the hardboard siding.

On January 15, 1998, the Circuit Court of Mobile County, Alabama, granted approval to a settlement reached by plaintiffs, and Masonite Corporation. This was followed by similar actions against the other manufacturers of HardBoart type products

Plaintiffs in this action alleged that hardboard type sidings rot, buckle, discolor, deteriorate, and cause damage to other parts of the buildings. Thousands of property owners recovered millions of dollars. BUT there was a time limit for claims and that has come and gone some years ago.

If you have HardBoard type siding on your home do what ever you can to start the replacement process, even if you need to make replacements over a period of time as you can afford new siding. Leaving that old stuff in place can lead to more and more moisture damage, termites mold infestations and an accelerated deterioration of you home.

The best solution we have found is to strip off all of the siding and install vinyl lap. If you are looking for a less expensive method you can start to replace just the damaged sections with T-111 Plywood siding and Paint any portions of the siding not effected. Pay special attention to painting heavily over nail holes as that is where most of the problems with this type siding start.
