Replacing Manufact Home Furnace with Residential Style Furnace

We have a manufact home with a full cement basement. I would like to remove my old Coleman Manufact home furnace from the closet and replace it with a regular furnace in the basement of my home. We have duct board for the main floor and some metal ductwork in the basement to accomodate heating and cooling this area.

Are there any federal (HUD) guideline that would prevent us from installing a regular furnace in the basement or do we have to keep or Coleman furnace in the closet if we need to replace it?

Heating systems installed in or under any wood framed home call for some experience and expertise. You dont want to burn down the home.

That being said... Even if your considering doing it yourself get bids from a few local licensed gas or oil appliance installers to find out what the local code demands and how they would handle the venting,installation and connecting the new furnace to the existing home duct work.

Let them tell you how they would do the job your looking for and what permits you will need and what the inspection process is like in your area.

Im many places across the country you can not get permits unless you use a licensed contractor.

If it is a fuel burning furnace (gas or oil) a manufactured home furnace is required and would create an appraisal and home inspection problem if and when you sell your home. Updraft manufactured home furnaces for basement installation are available, though.

It would be an 80% upflow furnace in the basement. We would tie into the existing ductwork from the basement and run a main return air system for the entire house. The doors are already undercut to accomodate RA in the rooms.

I understand that manufactured homes have special furnaces but I do not understand if this is a requirement if your manufactured home have a full basement.

I just wanted to thank you for the help and guidence. I have found out way modular and mobile homes have Fed requirements for their systems. I also found upflow systems that will work.
