PLEASE HELP NEW HOME JUST SETUP !!!

Post by nicolesfirstmobilehome » Sat Aug 18, 2007 8:02 pm

I order a brand new double wide 66x27 mobile home through a horton dealer. lnog story short I originally ordered it with knockdown however it was going to take too long ( they are backedup in the knockdown department) and so we decided to get our money back for the knockdown and do it ourselves. The home was finsihed being steup today ( not the electric, etc) just on blocking putting the 2 pieces together and they caulked the middle to make one.

THE DEALER IS VERY MEAN AND RUDE. I CALLED HIM AND ASK " WHEN IS SOMEONE COMING OUT TO DO THE CARPETING, PUT UP THE BLINDS, INSTALL THE DRAWRER, AND EVERYTHING ELSE THATS NOT EVEN RELATED TO THE WALLS? AND HE SAID HES ALL DONE AND THAT WE HAVE TO DO ALL OF THE ABOVE OURSELVES B/C WE GOT THE WALLS UNFINISHED.

THERES SCRATCHES ON THE LENOLEUM, THE DRYWALL IS SPACED TOO FAR AND SOME ISN'T EVEN NAILED DOWN, THERE LARGE HOLES ( LIKE A FIST WENT THROUGH IT) IN THE CEILINGS, THE FRAMING AROUND THE TUB IS SO MESSED UP YOU CAN SEE THE NAILS WHERE THE TRIM WAS SUPPOSED TO COVER. THE CABINETS ARE MISSING KNOBS, THE STOVE IS UNEVEN AND HAS A HUGE GAUGE IN IT FROM HITTING AGAINST THE CABINET, AND SO SO MUCH MORE

NOW THE QUESTION WHAT DO I DO??????? HE SAID ALL HE HAS TO DO IS HAVE THE ELECTRICIAN COME OUT TO DOTHE ELECTRIC, THE A/C COME OUT TO DO THE A/C AND THE PLMBING COME OUT AND HES DONE !!!!!

PLEASE HELP ME ! I TOOK PICTURES OF ALL PROBLEMS BUT WHAT DO I DO?

Call the plant's service manager Monday morning early...Write up your problems and tell him you will fax them to him....Get his e-mail address and send him the pics...Most of the problems you mentioned are Horton's responsibility..

Blind installation( loose because of the finish work yet to be done) and sliding a drawer into the cabinet would almost always be customer responsibility especially if the walls were unfinished..Usually a home with unfinished walls has no carpet installed. If carpet is sold with the home, it would be rolls covered with plastic to protect it during the messy finish process...If the plant did not finish the walls (or the dealer) the carpet would be your responsibility...This is part of the price of finished drywall package..

Horton must have changed since I sold them 3 years ago..Then they did NOT sell factory finished sheet rock....Only unfinished with dealer completing after delivery...Their warranty specifically EXCLUDES finished dry wall and cracks..

Since your dealer does not seem to be too professional..You should be sure the home is set exactly correctly..Get out your installation manual and review the footers, blocking, attachment of the halves and anchoring..All with hopes of minimizing future settling...Finished sheet rock can be VERY susceptible to settling cracks...

By the way..usually the term "knockdown" refers to a ceiling finish as opposed to popcorn or stomp ceilings..

We did not get the home with popcorn. It came with I guess stomp ceilings which looks horrible.

Why would the varbet being placed correctly against the lenoleum affect thw walls ? We simply agreed to mud, tape and put the knockdown on the walls ourselves. thats it. I can understand the mirrors not being up on the walls b/c they are not finished but I don't understand doing nothing about the lenoleum being scratched or not finishing the carpet just b/c the walls aren't finished and we were told the walls are coming " blue nailed" and they are not nailed at all with huge gaps between the drywall and the ceiling and huge spaces between the sheets of drywall making it next to impossible to tape mud and do the knockdown and with so many things wrong like the stove being scratched and the floor being scratched we are afraid to touch the home b/c what if they accuse us of doing all of it?

I just mentioned the terminology to point out how easy it is for misunderstandings.

You are right to worry about the scratches, dents and holes in cieling...These are items that need to be addressed by Horton...I would send certified letters to Horton and the dealer with a full list of defects and a copy of your pics. Do this Monday morning and start finishing the house. Do a complete walk through and note all defects in detail. YOU WILL be blamed for any not noted now. You can find Horton's contact address in your owners manual..
Unfinished sheet rock often has gaps of 1/2 inch or more.. Basically the sheet rock is glued to the walls and will not come off..You may have to nail back a sheet or 2 that worked loose in transit..That is what the tape is for in tape and texture..
Sounds to me the you may want to have a professional sheet rock crew come and finish your home..They will charge about $600 per room. Even a closet would be a room.
I think you are going to be stuck with the carpet...If your purchase agreement does not say "carpet installed" You probably have nothing to go on. As I said manufacturers leave carpet loose on blue nailed (just a term) home to protect it from damage.
You mention things you were told by the salesperson...They mean little unless explicit in writing in your purchase agreement.

I looked up Horton contact info..

Service Contact for Horton Homes

If your punch list is VERY long and your are not getting any response, I would contact your lender and ask for their help..Most likely your dealer is not paid yet..Money motivates..
