I have a 1964 NEM mobile home with a slide out living room that I have to move. Does everything have to be removed from the slide out area? Are there
any general instructions and or drawings on how most older slideouts function?
Any assistance you could provide would be much appreciated.
Slideout living room
Re: Slideout living room
HUGE job..You should contract with a VERY experienced moving crew..hopefully one old enough to remember and have worked on this kind of home...Carpet, metal closeup material in the corner outside at the slide-out (often called expando) , roof flashing and anchors on the room. There will probably be some lag bolts holding it on as well. Some in the roof and maybe in the floor. You will not find any manuals for a 1964 model (New MOON I assume) Expando homes are famous for rotting over the years..Most dealers would not move it for the title..Expect this home to have substantial cost to reinstall and make liveable..Remember this is a 43 year old single section home..
Most of these homes have a hinged floor so that floor can fold up when the room is slid in...The hinge is often the problem..they rust and will not close properly..
Good Luck

WOW! I'm glad I'm not the last standing participant in this business that remembers the working of the slide out/tip out/expandos. Back in the early 70s, prior to the popular development of doublewides those things were the rage. I used to work for my brother on weekends and helped him set up several Skyline slide-outs.
Your advise is exactly right.
Quiet a few of the modern RVs still are made with expandos and the advise or participation of an experience RV set up crew might be helpful
