We are moving from Rhode Island to the Port Angeles/Sequim area and I'd like to narrow down a few brands/models before we visit a dealership along with exactly what options we want. I've purchased John's e-book and read it in one day. It has a lot of good information in it. He mentioned one dealship in Washington that has integrity but not the name. What I want to know if he mentions dealerships in his mfd ratings book? I don't want to run all over the place trying to decide which dealership is a good one or spend weeks visiting all the models. I want to decide now and then find a good dealership to visit and go from there. Since we don't know anyone with that information out there and there are not dealerships to even visit in our neck of the woods (rhode island), We don't want to rent any longer that needed.
Also, is his other book available anywhere as an e-book? Much cheaper and I can convert it to text, load it into Word, (did doesn't bring the pictures over but that's okay) and highlight the things I want to remember most.
Buyer's Guide
Re: Buyer's Guide
In his role as an industry observer and consumer advocate John Grissim, author of the bestselling Grissim Guides, investigates operations and speaks with people at all levels of the manufactured home industry to gain insights he shares with his readers, to help them make informed decisions.
John has interviewed industry leaders for a one-page feature, 15 minutes with... that runs in an industry trade publication. In return the magazine runs an ad for the Grissim Guides. No money changes hands. He insist on this. Aside from book sales, John neither solicits nor accepts a dime from the industry, and his readers have his assurance he intends to keep it that way.
Unfortunately, in most businesses when an endorsement is made of a specific product or retail outlet the endorser is a paid spokesperson for that business. I think that John has not endorsed any retailers because this could appear to compromise his position as an independent consumer advocate.
The Grissim Buyer's Guide to Manufactured Homes and Land is available in both print and e-book editions. The Grissim Ratings Guide to Manufactured Homes is only available in print at this time. It is the first consumer ratings guide to every manufactured home builder ever published and provides at-a-glance listings with key information home shoppers need to make an informed decision. At only $29.95 the book is an economical investment to acquire the years of research it took to compile. Typically, the print books ordered from The Manufactured Housing Book Store are received in three to six business days.
Purchasing a home is a major step in your life. Your home purchase decisions should be very personalized. John's books are the best guides every written for manufactured housing shoppers. They will assist you in finding a reputable dealer, selecting the right builder for you, and negotiating a fair price, but ultimately you need to put the information in the book to work for you, invest some road time, make some personal inspections and decisions yourself.
Finding dealers in New England is difficult as in most parts of the region manufactured homes are limited to designated communities, where the developer has an exclusive market for selling homes. Start your project by reading Johns books and when you get out west you will be able to find retail locations much easier.
Best of luck in your new location. Please come back here and let us know about your journey towards home ownership.

Re: Buyer's Guide
A quick follow-up to the writer's initial questions:
No, I do not rate dealers in either of my consumer guides, but the Grissim Buyer's Guide provides extensive guidance enabling home shoppers to carefully and systematically determine the reputation of any dealer with whom they are dealing with a high degree of confidence.
And,no, the Grissim Ratings Guide to MH is not available as a digital edition.
Good luck with your home search.
