Placing Of Airconditioner Unit

Post by quillows » Sun Apr 29, 2007 8:26 pm

I have just bought a Palm Harbor home. There are no vents in the floors or above the doors. All vents are in the ceiling. Palm Harbor guarantees that there will not be more than a 1 percent difference in temperature throughout the home. I was not on site when they installed the heat/airconditioner unit. They placed it right where I want to build a porch with a screen room around it. It is in the center on the back side of the home. The sales manager is telling me that it is the only place they can place it without causing problems with the guarantee. I would like to have it placed at the end of the home. It would be even closer to the inside return air duct than it is now. Do you know anything about this and do you forsee any problems if we move it? Or, have you seen any creative ways people have built screen rooms on top of a porch with the unit inside? Thank you in advance.

I worked for PH for a number of years...It is true that the air return system is much better than most other homes..It will help keep an even temperature through the home....BUT there is no such guarantee that you mention....Read all your closing docs carefully...There is a warranty about the ability to heat and cool the home in relation to the out side temperature....Your a/c installer should have called you and cleared the location prior to instalation...Also the location should have been addressed in the final close (PH calls this process warranty close)..The video you saw addressed this issue...Many of my customers have had the same plans. Often the a/c units were on the end...There is no question that the closer to the air handler the more efficient the unit..Call your PH office..Ask the phone number of the customer advocate in your region...Call them and they will solve your problem..GM's are told to solve problems by this advocate...If you at all mentioned the porch the move should be on PH...but if this was never mentioned a small fee might well be on you...Discuss this promise with the advocate as well..They will train the salesperson not to make the same mistake again...
You bought a great home..They WILL satisfy you..Your customer advocate phone number should also be on the final docs or in your owners manuaL

yes ther is a problem to move it you need to refigure your porch. Unfortunatly Palm Harbar has a habit of making things look easy till you buy your home. Redesign your porch and plan it accordingly

You come across as someone who has been creamed by PH....There is NO home that dictates the location of the a/c and decks, steps, garages or drivways...It is true that the shorter supply lines are less expensive and many dealers will only use them to save the dealer a few bucks....Sounds like yours has you snowed...
