The soil on our land is red clay and I understand that it is not the greatest for a cement foundation. Does anyone know where to go to find out information on what type of soil we will need for a good foundation? Our land is in Southwest Arkansas.
I am trying to gather all the information I can before we get to involved in the purchase of a new home.

Re: Correct Soil for Foundation
Red clay is the normal soil thru out the south. The bearing capacity of the soil can be determined by a soils engineer in your area. Once the bearing capacity is established the grading for the proper site preparation can be accomplished. The engineer by establishing bearing capacity can then properly size the footing system needed to properly support your structure.

The most effective way I have found to learn about the step by step process involved in properly installing a manufactured home is a great five-part video series with George Porter, the industry's most respected installation specialist. Mr. Porter leads you through a two hour viewing experience that will prepare you for the numerous operations and complexities involved in the installation of the modern manufactured home.
