30 Ft Span

Post by richard » Tue Jan 16, 2007 11:17 am

I am looking at a Crystal Valley 30x68 by Patriot. It has a living room as you go in the front door that spans the enitre width of home. It is almost 18 ft wide and is 29 ft deep inside measurements. Will there be any problem with the roof trusses spanning this with no inside support. Also will there be any problem adding a front porch with the extra weight the porch roof would add??
Any info appreciated.

Patriot, like every other builder must have approval of engineered plans prior to building any lay out so I would not be concerned with the ability of the roof system. A porch deck should not add any stress to the roof system. Any roof additions usually should be free standing and self supporting. Explain to your retailer exactly what you proposed to add to the home and ask him to find out from the factory if your plans would compromise the home in any way.

To get a good idea of the best way to add a deck or any addition take a look at the article Adding on to your manufactured home if your intending to do it yourself or hire a contractor.
