Kaufman manufactured homes???

Post by hummagine » Wed Aug 30, 2006 7:24 pm

Hi All!
I've been searching the net to try to find information about this manufacturer but haven't been able to come up with anything. We're interested in a listing that says Kaufman is the manufacturer. The year built is 1985 so perhaps they have gone out of business or have been bought by another company. The home is located in southeast central Florida. We will be viewing the home tomorrow, but the owner is not there nor will we be seeing the listing agent. If anyone can shed some light about the subject, we'd appreciate it greatly. Thanks!
Karen

This home was probably built by Kaufman and Broad..As a builder of manufactured homes..this company is long out of business..The company is currently in the stick built business...
'
In the 80's they built and distributed a top line home for the business in Florida...Just remember this home was built pre-Hurricane Andrew and does not meet the current wind code requirements...But from the location you mentioned it must have survived well in the 4 Hurricanes of 2004..All of which went through this area..

Thanks for the info, R.
After seeing it this evening, it certainly does seem to be top of the line. As to the fact that it is pre-Andrew, by all accounts (the neighbors) it did well thru Frances & Jeanne - only the carport & utility shed were damaged. The home is in Barefoot Bay which sustained massive damage from the storms, being so close to the Indian River Lagoon & being in the NE quadrant & close to where the storms made landfall.
I do have another question about it that hopefully, you (or anyone else), can answer & it concerns the roof. It's not the usual shingle style but is described as a "Double-Pan, baked enamel finish". Do these types of roofs last a long time and are they good? Can they be coated or repaired if need be?
Thanks again for any help you can give.

Karen...what you are describing is what some refer to as a "roof over" in my opinion they are better than a shingle roof. It is usually applied over the original roof ( metal or shingles ) Many time it begins with a layer of insulation than the pans ( usually aluminum ) are applied. If done properly there is no need for coating. Just check sealant around roof vent pipes. Shingle get old and need repace. Baked on aluminum pans will last a long time. If you have the insulation layer, you can reduce your cooling cost by 25-50% (depending on the type of roof over you have).
p.s. That is a great area but check insurance costs also ( you might have to make a "budget" adjustment. Good luck & enjoy living in sunny Florida!

I just bought a 1985 Kaufman & Broad mobile home. It had been taken care of extermely well, which is probably why it apparaised for the $140K I paid for it. The one fly in the ointment is the plumbing is Quest and apparently that has presented many problems of leaking. I thought about repiping it, but that would have been $3K. I had a contractor screen in the porch with electrical outlets and ceiling fan. This is for my mother-in-law. We totally repainted the coach redid the linoleum, and recarpeted the living room. Now it looks great.
