Engineering Certification

As you know, FHA loans require an Engineering Certification. What is the best way to locate a qualified engineer in a given area to do that certification?

Actually FHA mortgages require either an engineer designed and certified foundation and OR an inspection from a FHA approved inspector...FHA has lists of these folks listed on their web site....

The engineer is usually used only for new home installations..Any dealer should be familiar with those in his area...

The inspection process is more common in resales of existing homes....

According to FHA guidelines you must have a "Licensed Engineer" do the foundation inspection. I use a search engine called "switchboard.com". Just type in Structural Engineer and the city and state and it will even tell you how far away from your city they are. Make sure they are a "Licensed Engineer" FHA will not accept a foundation inspection from anyone else.

Tip: If there are any additons to the home, ie: decks, garage, additional rooms, etc. Make sure the engineer address them in his report that they have not interfered with the structural integrity of the home.

your mortgage company should have this info. Since we were doing and FHA they had to get the foundation inspected and signed off on before fha would release the money.
