Post by Carla Sutton » Mon Apr 25, 2005 1:25 pm

Hello Will someone please help me. LOL I bought a 1984 Bristol mobile home in Pa. I am trying to get it moved from private property to private property. The code enforcement officer is telling me I need piers and a tie down kit approved by the manufacturer. So I ask him ok how man piers do I need. He says well you have to call and ask the manufacturer to send you the specs of where and how many piers are needed. He said if the manufacturer is out of business then I am basically screwed!! I don't know the manufacturer all is says on title is 1984 Bristol. Can anyone help me? PLease respond. Thanks...........Carla

There aree new set up rules and proceedures in every state...Unfortunatly building inspectrors are often out of touch...Most states have generic set up rules that homes with no manual must meet...You might call the PA association and ask advice about the generic set up code..

I have relocated several MH in PA to a park where the owners have been very cooperative. Their PA research shows piers on each side of the MH every 8 foot. They have been drilling 18 inch diameter holes down 4 foot and filling them with concrete and putting an anchor on top. The mover has been able to tighten the tie downs so that recent 60 mph wind did not shake any of my mobiles. The adjacent park uses the trench method for anchors, they dig a 2 ft wide trench about 14-16 ft long every 8 ft again. But with the trench, you can attach a variety of MHs. Of course the trench uses about double the amount of concrete.
the piers must be custom dug for each trailer.

Good luck.

Joe
