Well, finally seen a mouse in our house for the first time in 3 winters. I immediately set out traps and proceeded to throw a box of mothballs under the home. The problem is that now I smell mothballs all over the house, will the smell eventually fade away? I have not seen any mice since the mothballs.

Re: mice
We had lots of mice last year, when we were leaving bird seed on the porch. That stopped immediately!
This year at the first sign of them I put all cupboard/pantry food in plastic containers or in the fridge, such as crackers, grains, etc.
We also have poisons set out in various places, under the sink, etc. where we have seen droppings. These are little paper bags with tiny green tabs of poison that we get from our pest control sprayer person.
We've tried to cover all openings anywhere they could get in by stuffing steel wool in the holes, but I think they find ones we haven't thought of or can't find. They may come up through the heater vents on the floor as well. Who knows? If they don't find food, perhaps they will leave you alone.
There are some excellent websites about mice prevention. Just Google "mice prevention" and that ought to do it.
I think the smell of mothballs is very bad for heatlh. Years ago I used them for flea eradication (putting the mothballs into the vacuum bag and then vacuuming) until Prevention magazine did a story on how unhealthy it is to smell the naptha or whatever the ingredient is.
Plus it's not a very pleasant smell.
Good luck!

Re: mice
When I had mice I purchased some sticky mouse traps and put them in the kitchen, on the deck and under the deck. I also, put a dab of peanut butter on the trap. Once the mice puts one foot on the sticky stuff they stay and usually die. Just pick up the trap and throw it away
