HELP for Month of 1976 Manuf Hm

Post by Candy Moore » Wed Nov 09, 2005 4:05 pm

Trying to trace info on 1976 (proven by Yavapai Assessor's Office & Title Company it's a 1976) on what MONTH it was manufactured. Cannot locate RED Label or glued paper with details. The following is what I know & #s I've found:

- VIN (according to experts contacted) 2173S6103X & 2173S6103U (doublewide).
-- 2173 = CA. Made by Skyline
--- Skyline says MOST LIKELY 1976 but will not/cannot confirm month built (only keeps records 7 years).
- Label found on home says "Greenbriar Homes" (made by Skyline?)
- # 555134 on grey & black label with VIN #. (No one has been able to explain what this # means)
- County Assessors office has Affidavit of record logged by Book & page #, indicating 1976 model.
- Title Company has 1976 model listed.
- VIN # from MVD indicates 1976 model.

HOW DO I GET PROOF OF MONTH BUILT. It means the difference of conventional loan possibilities and private lenders to purchase--not to mention the difference of paying 5% down vs 25%-50% down!!!

Tried to find HUD Code specifications. According to an "old timer" HUD Codes changed effective Jun 15, 1976 & included VIN #s of last character being "alpha", which the VIN # above are. How do I find the "law" or code on this to PROVE IT.

Original owner died. Kids inherited home. No records.

I have talked to:
County Assessors Office for Yavapai, Arizona
Mortgage Companies
Lenders
Title Companies
Hud Reps
etc etc etc.

HELP PLEASE. My time is running out to make a decision on this purchase.

Your state motor vehicle department should have the original MSO..manufacturer certificate of origin..This for would have been required to get the first title...Most state keep these for decades..they will have the manufacturers date on them...

Actually most likely if the home was titled 1976 it probably was not a HUD home..Almost all manufacturers actually started titling the 1977's on June 15th, 1976...The black and grey label is probably a Underwriters Laboratory (UL)label...ALL Skylines were built to their approval...They might have some records of build date..Pre-HUD homes would also have an ANSI lable on the area near the front door....

This web site might have some info that could help...
