Rising the roof pitch

Post by Bob » Sun Oct 16, 2005 7:01 pm

Hi
Has any one raised the pitch of thier roof from 3/12 to 4/12 or higher.
Does a manufacured house have any different Roof construction other than a regular built house besides that it has to come apart in a double wide?
Thanks

Of course the trusses are only 1/2 trusses...You might be able to build the current roof up to 4x12 with an overlay..The added weight might be a problem...but the process should be easy enough...measure your current pitch...most likely it is a nominal 3x12 which is closer to a 2 /12 x12...This would mean the ridge will have to be even higher than you thought...Your local government might be very precise with this rule...I would think this would be a big project....expensive to do right...Check with professional roofers in your area....

you will be altering the home in a way that will likely overload the walls, floor and foundation. Also, many manufcturers use the roof decking to transfer wind loads across the home into the shear walls. You will be taking all of these things and more out of conformance.
Unless your home is older and there is no possible way you will ever need the manufacturer to take any responsibilty for any problem, I wouldn't do it.
