replacing vinyl siding
replacing vinyl siding
I have a 1999 Palm Harbor and last week we noticed a hole as big as a quarter in it and a little crushing above that. We think maybe a bird (?) may have hit it hard. We do not have small children so rocks, etc. is probaby not the case. Anyway, we have determined that we probably can pick up the color we need at Home Depot. I called someone to get a price and he said it was relatively easy to replace. My questions-do I just pull the strips off (Ithink he said they ususally are about 12 to 15 ft. long by 10 "). I have looked at it and do not want to disturb the other panels and all of them start falling off. If there is some color difference, I thought I would transfer a strip on back of the home to the front and put the new on the back until it ages. They look like they just slide onto one another but need to know for sure so I won't make a mess. Thanks,
Re: replacing vinyl siding
You will be able to pull the individual piece loose from the bottom of the piece, then go to the piece above, and pull it loose, also from the bottom. This will allow you to replace the one piece and then reinstall the other one above it.
Re: replacing vinyl siding
Rather than replace the 12' peice, just replace a 5-6 foot section.
it is rather easy, pull down and out on the bottom on the peice ABOVE the damaged peice, it should unlock from the damaged peice below.
A pair of snips will allow you to cut out a 5-6 foot section 2 to 3 inches shorter than the peice you want to install. remove the nails from the cut section and put it back togather.
read the directions on the siding box for more details.
