I am placing a used 1996 FLEETWOOD mobile home on 2 acres of my land for my son. I have got most of the permits done, but the township permit asks the question what the manufacter requires in regards to how many pillars are needed under it and also how many tie down straps are requried. The Mobile home is 14 X 80. I don't know how to get this information. Can you help. I live in Pennsylvania.
Thanks
Eddie

Re: pillars
Hi. You should be able to get it from a local dealer. I have a 95 Northriver and I have a description of how the pillars should be placed in with my papers from where we bought it. I have a 16x80 and is states "Minimum blocking requirements" - pier footing should be installed directly under the main frame or chassis of the home. The piers shall not be further apart than 8 feet on center, and the main frame, front or back, shall not extend further than 2 feet beyond the center line of the end of the piers.. In addition to supporting the frame, piers are also required to support special roof loads. These support piers are required at all marriage wall openings greater than 4 feet in width and all sidewall openings. These piers shall be placed at each side of such openings. Typical marriage walls are cathedral openings and passageways openings greater than 48". I don't know if this helps, I also have a diagram showing the full length and where each one should be placed. If you need this I can try to copy it and email it to you.
Re: pillars
Hi. I also forgot to add about the tie down straps. It states must have frame tie downs spaced as evenly as practical with the piers or blocks. End tie downs shall be no more than 16" from the ends of the home. The optional over the roof tie down shall pass over the top at the stud and rafter location near each end of the home. Tie downs shall be fastened to ground anchors and drawn tight with 1/2 inch or larger galvanized drop forged turnbuckle or equiv tensioning device. Hope this helps you out.
Re: pillars
This home should be set to the generic set up code that your state uses..Your building inspector ahould b able to help you....Today..most states require a licensed installler do the work...From your questions..I would suggest you invest in a quality set up crew...They will know the code and set the home in a mannor to avoid future problems..
Re: pillars
PA does not have a generic code to set Manufactured Homes. PA requires new homes be set to the manufacturers designs. There is no law to deal with used homes except the PA Uniform Construction Code, which would require the home comply with the same code as a stick built home. If the code official is a decent guy, he will accept the old ANSI 225.1 for plan review and installation.
contact the state SAA for a copy in the code official doesn;t have it.
