water heaters

I have a question that is really boggling my mind and I would like clarity- can I put a regular gas heater in my mobile home and if not, then why? What can happen if I do put a regular gas heater in? i don't have outside access to my heater. It is in a closet with the softener and my furnace/central air. I would just like some plain and simple answers-thank you!

Any fuel burning appliance for a manufactured home must be listed (approved) for manufactured housing.
an applicance like a gas water heater for manufactured homes is designed for closed combustion, so the flame is not open any where inside the home.
The flue connection to the water heater and the open pilot would prohibit a regular water heater in your case.
