I'm looking for a high quality MH in the Phoenix area, and am having trouble deciding if the difference in price between the Redman Innovation line and the Genesis modular verstion (same floor plan) is worth it -- the Genesis would be about $15,000 higher. So does anybody know what exactly is the difference in quality and appearance, other than the obvious difference in HUD code vs. UBC?
If I'm building on my own land and don't need to meet UBC codes, is there really any good reason to go with modular? At present, the only builder who deals with Genesis is in Flagstaff, which is a bit far. (There are several Redman dealers in Phoenix.) And would it be a significant advantage to buy from the Champion/Redman factory in Chandler, as opposed to a dealer in NW Phoenix closer to my location?
I'd really appreciate any input, as I'm in a bit of a muddle!
Thanks in advance.
Blair
Redman vs. Genesis in AZ
Re: Redman vs. Genesis in AZ
The difference is simply the code. Both houses are built in the same plant by the same people. Most of the materials are the same. The modular should offer better appraisals and resale value. But, if you have a large down payment that may not matter to you and you may prefer to save the $15000.

Tmino,
Thanks for the reply--I'm glad to get your take on the question. Particularly if it saves me money!
Do you think the Redmans are generally good quality, or would you have any reservations about buying one?
Thanks again,
Blair

Re: Redman vs. Genesis in AZ
A good friend of mine owns a 2002 Redman and is delighted with it. You do want to stay with an upgrade model, Redman does cut corners on lower priced models. The retailer you choose is probably most important. Visit them all, ask a lot of questions, ask to visit the factory before you buy, and ask for references from customers and from park managers. I know you are not going in a park, but park managers see how a retailer deals with all of their customers, not just those that are happy enough to give referrals. Ask each dealer who does their installations and ask for the same reference for the installer. Anyone who cannot or will not answer all of these questions is someone you want to scratch off your list.

Tmino,
Great info--thanks! I'll definitely stay with an upgrade model. And I do plan to visit the Redman factory in Chandler, AZ, and if I go with Redman, I will probably buy "factory direct" as opposed to an independent dealer. I presume I'll get a better deal that way. But I'll check out some dealers too.
Thanks again for your help!

Re: Redman vs. Genesis in AZ
We would like to know the quality of the Redman. We were told Redman has R37 in ceiling and R27 in walls and R22 in floors. Is this true? This would be in Delaware.
