Vinyl Siding

Dear Sir: During hurricane Jeanne, I had about 300 sq ft of Vinyl Siding blown off my manufactured home which was built in 2001. I noticed that there was no weather-protective barrier (house wrap or felt paper) unstalled under the vinyl. It was stapled directly on the particle board or "OSB"? (don't know exactly what they call it). New manufactured homes being built in this park also have nothing between the vinly and the wall. Is this in accodance with the Code??? I live in Brevard County, Florida (zip code: 32904). Please let me or where I can find the answer and, if not in complicance with the HUD code, what can I do about It.

HUD codes do not require house wrap. However iIf you have to have the vinyl replaced it would be a good idea to go ahead and wrap the whole house(Tyvac,Housewrap or the equilvent) before you put up the new vinyl.

Very few homes have a weather barrier when they have OSB (not particle board) wrap...

The OSB wrap is the most preferred way to build a home..It added great strength that helped the home survive the weather...300 sq feet of vinyl siding was very small damage..

I doubt that it would be worth the money to remove all of the siding and wrap the home with plastic now..

Sounds like your home weathered the storm well...repair it and move on to enjoying that good Florida life..

Hi My name is patricia, My husband and I have a powerwashing comp. We did a powerwashing job. As we were doing the job we noticed this brown color and sticky stuff coming out behind the siding, my husband pulled the vinyl siding away slightly and noticed that there was no tyvac, or anything behind the siding to protect it. it had rusty nails and brown weathered wood. What is it that caused the staining of the siding and the brown stuff that came out? Please tell me.
