furnace
furnace
I'm having trouble with my miller/becket furnace. It's 8 yr. old and they say it loks ok but it keeps konking out. they installed a new fuel pump last week but it did it again. they bleed the lines and it comes back on. now they say it's my old oil tank outside that is the problem. I live in RI and the tank is over 20 yrs old. replacement is 1,000. so i want to be sure that is what it is. Any ideas anyone? Please help!! It will be pretty cold soon. the tank is 1/2 under ground and i use kerosene. I think it is top fed. Thanks a lot.
Re: furnace
A couple of issues:
First make sure the nozzle is new, and the correct size.
Is the tank utilizing a one or two line feed. If one line, it must not be allowed to suck air. This happens if a filter is in the line. If it is a two line set up, it can suck air, but because of the second return line, the air no longer is a factor. When the new pump was installed, it comes set up for a one line system. If you have a two line system, if was necessary to install a bypass plug in the new pump. If this is not done, the valve in the pump remains closed and operates only the one line. The new plug should have been supplied with the pump. A tank only goes bad, if it leaks.
