ABS Bathtub

Post by Joe Reed » Thu Oct 28, 2004 1:16 pm

I have a 2004 Fleetwood that is only 5 months old. The guest bath tub has stress cracks around the drain and in some corners. I found out that this is a "plastic" tub and I am thinking about replacing it with a fiberglass tub. Is this really worth the extra money? I wish I had known this before the home was built. Fleetwood does not offer any kind of specification sheet for their homes....otherwise we would have known about the "plastic" tub before hand. Unfortunately, the tub supplier for Fleetwood does not carry any fiberglass tubs, except for one piece units (which requires more work to install). I will have to pay for the fiberglass tub myself.....minus a slight credit from Fleetwood. Is this worth it?

Thanks........

Eugene

Joe,
your plastic tub should perform well if it is properly installed, evidently, yours is not.
Stress cracks around the drain are indicitive of the foam base for the tub not being fully supported by the floor, often manufacturers over cut the floor decking in this area or cut away some of the foam to work on the drain line.
Cracks in the corners can be caused again by the tun not resting fully on the floor, screws driven too tight, walls out of alignment, etc.
your tub should last more than 5 months, contact Fleetwood and file a written complaint!

Thanks Eugene !!!!
Quick response too!
Actually, you confirmed what I had been told by a tub salesman and a parts salesman.I didn't trust either of those. Thanks for the unbiased opinion.
And....trust me, Fleetwood has many complaints about this tub.We have even gone as high up as the President and CEO of Fleetwood Enterprises. But I will say they have tried to work with us on this.

Not to mention.....we live in central Florida. So our Fleetwood did withstand hurricanes (Charlie, Frances, and Jean) and we never lost even a shingle. We are definately thankfull for that!

Excellent message base.I'll be back.
Thanks again!

Yes sir!
Actually that division is under Florida Motor Vehicle and Safety, we have the direct number for the mobile home complaint line. We also have the form for the Florida Attorney General's Office (consumer complaints) and the Better Business Bureau and the local Channel 6 Problem Solvers.

Needless to say, we are well prepared. I just thought I'd throw the others out there in case someelse is looking for suggestions on filing complaints.

Thanks for everything !!!
