putting new finish on outside of mobile home

We have a 1979 mobile home that we are completely refurbishing, inside and out. We are trying to decide what material to use on the outside. We were considering vinyl siding. I heard, today, about another option: Hardy plank (or Hardy board) which is a 3/8" cement sheet. It comes in 8 or 6" planks or in 4' x 8' boards. It has to be painted with a couple of coats of paint. It is supposed to be very durable. I was told that this is what the manufacturers are using now on the new mobile homes. I am interested in more opinions, pros or cons regarding using vinyl siding or the Hardy board. Also, I was told about log siding. If anyone has any info on that, I am interested. Thks.

Great stuff...but very hard to work with...Will require specialized expensive saw blades...diamond bit drills...and screws to install...nails will not go through the stuff..

Be sure you have a strong foundation...this stuff will add 4 to 5 TONS to the overall weight of your home..

Hardiplank siding is nailed, most commonly #8 galvanized nails from a pneumatic siding nailer.Unless you're living in the dark ages nobody hand nails in siding projects. :)
