OSB Flor vs 3/4 in Plywood

Post by Susan » Tue Dec 09, 2003 7:20 pm

We are considering upgrading the OSB standard flooring our new home will offer to 3/4 in. plywood. I would think the plywood is better flooring, but I've heard if it happens to get wet, it will only warp. Whereas the OSB is supposed to be better to withstand water and have better durability We're just wanting to make sure the upgrade is worth the extra money or if OSB is just fine.

Thanks!

If you're sure its 3/4" OSB and not particle board(or one of the many names manufactures use for particleboard) then go ahead and use it.It should be tongue and groove and be rated for floors.Plywood and OSB are very similar, however OSB is not quite as expensive.Neither will warp or rot unless exposed to moisture or water for long periods of time.On the other hand particle board once wet will swell, lose its strength and soon come apart.By all means stay away from it for flooring use.

What about 19/32 tongue&groove OSB floor decking, glued and nailed to floor joists? That's what Clayton uses.
