MH on basements?

Does this idea make sense? Will the house last long enough to make it worth it (i.e. 30 yrs)? Does it make more economical sense to buy a larger home vs. a smaller one on a basement if gaining square footage is one of the objectives?

P.S. May be going to see a 'real live' home this week. Checking out Crystal Valley by Patriot first. Pretty excited!

A basement is generally inexpensive square footage. One problem you may run into is that most MH's aren't designed for a basement and therefore don't have a logical place for the stairs. If you use a two story MH, then the stairs could stack with the existing stairs, as long as the structural requirements are met.

Depending on the manufacturer, many manufactured homes are designed with basement placement in mind. Manufacturers also offer frames, under different names, that make basement placement easy and allow for perminiter support.
Any good retailer can show you lots of plans, and maybe displays that are workable for a basement.
As if it is better to get a big home without a basement vs. a smaller home with, it depends on what your plans for the space is. Most manufactured homes are designed with the heating system on the first floor. So, if your plannng into turning the basement into "living space" you might have to consider additional heating/cooling for that space.
