I was talking to a friend today who is very familiar with the a/c and heating business. He told me about ground source heat pumps which is geothermal heating and the extreme advantages of putting in that system on the a/c unit and also changing the evaporator coils on the unit which will be a 4 ton unit and upgrading those to a set of coils for a 5 or 6 ton unit. The advantages and potential cost savings seems very, very good. Anyone have any input or comments ?
Thanks
Tom
Geothermal Heat Pump
Re: Geothermal Heat Pump
I have read a little about geothermo a/c...I do not know enough to know about about it to offer an opinion...
BUT...I can offer an opinion about OVER sizing an a/c...Air conditioners (the name says it all...they would be named air coolers if cooling was the only goal)...work by "conditioning" the air in the interior of the home..cooling it is 1 of the things that it does...but removing humidity is just as important...To remove the humidity the unit must operate a sufficient amount of time..oversizing the unit will cause it not to run enough to be effective...
Go to www.energystar.gov for extensive discussions about energy savings and air conditioning...Thjere is some info there about the geothermo units as well..Good Luck

Re: Geothermal Heating of res. home
I'd like to get as much info on heat my own home with geothermal heating
1] how deep do you drill for a house 6000 - 7000 sqft winter time 25F- to summer 110 F+
With heating costs rising I'm trying to invest money well spent for the future
I intend to install radiant heat system in my home
Can I use same hole for geothermal heating also for well water ?
How inportant is ventalation of my house concerned with moisture in the inside of house
Should I dig a pit about 30' x 30' by 10" deep and install coils to act as a sort of storage area before reaching my house was advise this would be a good idea by a plumber ?
Thank-you
Robert
