Identifying make, model etc with VIN

Does anyone know of a resource for identifying make, model, year, dimension information with a VIN number? Any ideas about where to locate the VIN number information if not visible in the usual locations? I need this info to replace the Certificate of Title. Thanks Leslie

Sometimes this is hard...There is no such resourse because there is no particular seriel number system...each factory has its own...and these change over time...

Most states have a system to reassign a seriel number which involves restamping a number on the home with some sort of generic name assigned by the state...

I would expect you would have to get this info from some old timer in the title office...Most newly hired clerks would not even be aware this system might be possible...Good Luck
