Two years ago we purchased a 1999 skyline on an acre. When the rains hit, we were suprised to discover that the skylights in the kitchen leak. When the weather was dry enough, my husband re-sealed the skylights. This lasted approximately for three months. Then the leaking ensued and and he fixed it again and so on and so forth up to this point in time. Water also blows in through the doors on stormy days. Is this normal? And another thing, when replacing the trim around the doors and windows a few months ago, we discovered that we could look directly outside through the cracks once the trim was removed. We put insulation in the gaps. I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced any of these things. Do we need to just remove the skylights? We thought we fixed the door with more weather stripping and such, but one good rain and we found puddles again. Any suggestions there? One more thing, have any of you ever experienced a hole in your floor? It's a perfect circle under the carpet that's about the size of the bottom of a pop can.
I'm actually not complaining because I'm pretty happy with our home. I'm just wondering if these are normal problems, or if we just purchased a poorly built skyline?
Thanks,
Heather

Re: Problems with home...
Are you right IN the Gorge where you get 40-50 mph wind and rain? I ask because I had a house with southern (storm direction) exposure, and I always got a little moisture driven into the windows and sliding door - which exited the weep holes. I actually had water blown up under my flashing at a bay window/wall juncture because the siding hadn't been nailed properly. If you have wind like that, experiment with flashing and other ways to deflect it.
As for the pop-can size hole, I bet someone drilled a hole for a plumbing passthrough in the wrong place.
We have an '02 Karsten just north of Newberg, on the north/shady side of Chehalem Mtn.
