walls

We are buying a used manufactured home. The walls are panel and I really do not like the appearance. Is it feasible to re-do the walls with tape and texture? Someone told me that they just removed the panel Strips, filled in, sanded and painted the walls and they should look like drywall. What is the best way to do this. Also floors, tile, linoleum, or acrylic wood? I will want to re-do the floors before moving in. Thanks so much for any advise. Nancy

You can paint the walls for a neat farmhouse look. Use primer to get good adhesion.

We just finished updating a 1977 home that had the dark paneled walls. Some were painted - just having a lighter color (off-white or light beige) made the room look much brighter and larger. Others we wallpapered with a raised surface/thick paper made especially for covering paneled or damaged walls (be sure to also prime with a quality primer) that we found at Lowe's. The paper comes in different patterns and is also paintable should you want to change the color.

Before we moved into ours we took down the strips, filled in the gaps and had a dry wall installer come in and texture the walls with orange peel texture. We then painted everything off white.

I'm not sure who you were talking to but ours is a three bedroom two bath 28x 40... we're to the point where if we don't mention it's a manufactured home and they're not from here originally they have no clue.
