Hi,

We are considering a Heritage American home. They have 2 grades of home. The cheaper one has perimeter floor registers as opposed to ceiling registers. It also has "Toe Kick Registers In Kitchen and Baths" whatever that means.

Having never lived in a manufactured home, I have no idea if this is going to bug me or not. What difference does it make? I really don't want cracker crumbles and whatnot in my HVAC.

What is the typical cost to upgrade to ceiling registers?

Any suggestions? Having no experience with this, I don't have enough information to make this decision.

perimeter registers ARE UP grade on most homes...The plants that do overhead usually charge about $300.00....

The floor/ceiling debate is like chocolate and vanilla. Neither is inherently better than the other.. Which is better for you depends on what is important to you.

Hot air naturally rises and cool air falls. The best place to put the registers, to get the most efficient heating and cooling, really depends on what part of the country you live in.

If you live in the south where the greater expense is air conditioning it would be most efficient to have the vents in the ceiling. Cool air will naturally fall, so by pumping in from the ceiling your air unit will not have to work as hard to get the air off the floor and evenly distributed in your rooms.

On the other hand, if you live in the north where heating is the major expense I would want the vents in the floor. Warm air rises so the heat unit wont have to work as hard to get the warmed air where you want it.

Many people overlook these basics of physics and prefer the vents above because of the difficulties of vacuuming and mopping around floor vents. On a lighter note: if you a bit short on cash you will never be able to fish change out of a ceiling vent.

Ah thank you. We will be either in Texas or Oklahoma so cooling is a priority. I will get the registers in the ceiling.
