Hardi vs. vinyl siding

We are trying to decide whether to spend the extra money on Hardi panel, or just take the standard vinyl siding with our Patriot home. We currently have Hardi on our site built and it is very sturdy. However I am unfamiliar with vinyl. Will vinyl be sufficient? Will it tear up in a storm? Will it last?
Thanks

My choice would Hardipanel because it looks richer than vinyl siding, offers great protection and if you don't like the color you can paint it. If you select vinyl make sure you select a color you want to live with for a very long time. If installed correctly there is nothing wrong with vinyl, does not need painting but it can crack if hit by an object, easy to replace the cracked slat if you can match the color.

The most substantial skirting system around is System-1 skirting by Hoffman Concrete. System-1 is what skirting should be- 100% solid concrete. System-1 is not an imitation or a look alike – it is the original concrete skirting system that resists the elements from the summer heat of Texas to the harsh winters of Minnesota. System-1 is built to last and is designed to stay put for years of dependable service.

Go Vinyl, it is easier to replace if damaged and I personnally think it looks better. Also, the manufacturer's do a sloppy job when they install the hadi board.
GO VINYL!
