This house is 32 years old. The roof has two layers on it now. Can I put another layer on top or do I have to start over?

In Oklahoma you can not have more than two layers of shingles. They will have to strip it down. It will be a little more expensive, but not much.

The weight of a single shingle is not very much but think of the weight of a bundle of shingles. Each layer of shingle roof can weigh TONS. MOST roof designs can carry the weight of a second layer of shingles but a third layer could exceed the ability of the trusses to support the weight and cause structural damage.

Not only that, code in most places will not allow a 3rd layer of roofing for much the same reason, too much weight, not a solid enough substrate (2 layers of decaying roofing).
