garden tubs "plant area"

Post by Mary » Sun Aug 22, 2004 2:07 pm

I have a 1974 double wide with a garden tub, which has a huge (about 3 feet long by 2 feet wide by 1 foot deep) "planter" area built in next to the tub.

The previous owner has left tacky plastic plants in here, and it looks awful. The thought of planting it with live plants (getting a liner, enough rocks and potting soil, etc.) is daunting.

Does anyone have one, or have any ideas?

Thanks.

Try going to "Hobby Lobby" or some other craft store. They have lots of nice artificial flowers and plants.

There are endless possibilities you can do with this space. If you ar thinking of lanting live plants/flowers just make sure you have sufficient light in your bathroom. Also, take into consideration the additional weight rocks and potting soil will have on the caulking/adhesive around your tub. In time, will this cause problems of the tub pulling away from the wall? I agreee with the other post. You can get very beautiful silk flowers, ferns, etc. at your local craft stores. Have some one who works there help you and give you ideas. You can even change out your color scheme to whatever your heart desires. If necessary, take a picture of your tub with you.

Thank you, Tina, for your very thoughtful suggestion. I think that you're correct in that rocks and potting soil, water, etc. would not be a good idea, due to the weight, etc. I had not thought of that.

I will visit my local hobby store with measurements, and go with silk flowers and ferns.

Thanks again for your idea.
