Front End vs Traditional

Post by Tina » Fri Aug 20, 2004 7:14 am

My husband and I live in the Northeast region of Texas. I have been going to the different websites of manufactured homes just to get some ideas on purchasing a home in the future. We plan to put our home on our own land. I have been looking at the different styles of homes and really like the front end loaders with the front porches. However, as far as the floor plans, I like the traditional styles better because of having the kitchen to the back of the home for the ease of stepping out your back door when entertaining and grilling out. Not to mention keeping an eye on the kids when they are in the backyard playing.
I really want a covered front porch so I can sit out on a porch swing and enjoy! My question is; Are the front end loaders generally more expensive than the traditional style homes? I have looked at 100's of homes online just to get an idea of the floorplan and layout. I have yet to find a home with the perfect floorplan for my needs. I wish I could design my own home. Is there anything out there where you can do this? Some of the things I would like to do is as simple as moving a wall or changing the style and location of windows.
Another concern I have is if you want to upgrade (2x6 or 2x8 exterior walls, double header over windows, better insulation, etc.) How can you be sure this is what you get when you are not there to go by and check on the progress like when having a stick built home built for you?

Front end homes look good..but are mostly common in areas where there are narrow lots.....

Seems it is the porch that is catching you eye...this can be built onto any home a cross the front of any...

Some top quality manufacturers will customize a home for you...most will make minor changes to floor plans they have at low cost..a few will totally customize..but the cost will be much higher..

As far as upgrades are concerned...If you feel better..visit the plant on the 2nd or 3rd day your home is being built..you will see it then with all of the upgrades..

One note of caution...Texas offers you a large choice of home...but floor plans are very regionalized..looking at floor plans not available in your area can lead to lots of frustration...

Have fun..Go for it..
