repaired $2600 deck 2 times only gets worse

Post by Gina from SC » Tue May 11, 2004 1:20 am

We recently bought a gorgeous Fleetwood home. We were reluctent even through the process where "things are not going to be higher than this amount" deal. Sure enough they fell really close to what seemingly was elevated prices. Ended up with payments $100 higher than we told the dealer we could afford (after 5 - 45 minute trips to Easley and numerous long distance phone calls). The deck is 10 x 25 with brick underpinning all way around. BUT-it is the shoddiest work-dealer couldn't have paid anywhere near that price. Company came back 2 times for repairs the last is worse than the first. Can't get anywhere with Bill Stevens--he blames the slow process on TriStateDistributors. Who do I contact to get this corrected? We are making our 2nd house payment and it only took a week to set-up and be closed. Thanks for any info.

Your state has pretty powerful complaint systems for contractors and dealers..

Contact the folks at this web site...if they think the complaint is with the contractor..they will point you in the right direction...Good Luck..

Gina,
Our new champion home is less than 7 months old and you cannot believe the nightmares we have had and still areputting up with. Everytime we call, it is the "blame game." The manufacturer says its the contractors fault, the contractor says its the manufacturers fault. We have siding coming off, downspouts coming apart, carpet seams that cannot be repaired(according to carpet guy they sent out), staples with no trim on it, peeling cabinets, nails coming through carpet, doors that won't shut, No filters on air intake, or well system, etc, etc,. I am planning on video taping and sending to HUD. Corporate office has called twice to see how we are "enjoying" our new home, I mean nightmare. When I tell them how much we are disgusted, they say "we will get this cleared up soon". Have never heard from them. Not even once. check this out: http://www.hud.gov/complaints/manhousing.cfm ALSO

Maybe that will help, I hope it helps me too as I have just investigated and found out "consumer protection rights" today.

Gina,
Was in M.H. sales for almost 4 yrs. in your area Greenville S.C..Some of my customers have had some problems with TriState. You can contact Doug at TriState and he will help.Keep in mind that the dealer as well as you need to put pressure on him to resolve the problem.Thats his job.Sorry I don't remember his last name. Also most, if not all Dealers mark up the cost of decks for more profit. If you want to find out how much just call them ,don't tell them who you are and get a quote.Best I can rember your size deck should have cost around $1500.00.to $1600.00.Don't give up I have had them tear down and build new decks before. Our company owned store was a big customer for them and they did not want to loose our business.Good luck,
