Moving, blues?

Post by Shelly » Sun Mar 14, 2004 7:34 pm

Hey Everyone!
I read this site from time to time, and I have found the information very helpful, so here I am with my own question :-)
My husband and I own a 1991 Fleetwood, a few months ago we about land to move the home to... I have so many worries and doubts about the whole moving process... I want everything to go as smoothly as possible...
The land we bought had an older home that we sold... The septic system is a couple of years old and we are going to move our home very close to where the other one was at...
Is there anything that we should worry about? Are their any unexpected expenses that we should be aware of?
If anyone has had a similiar experience, please share your thoughts...
Thanks,
Shelly

Nothing to be afraid of...but unexpected expenses seem to rise up with any major project..Do your budget....add a thousand for unanticipated expenses...hope you have it left after the move..

1st surprise some have...sepitic tank laws have changed a lot in the last few years...it is not uncommon for current septics to be required to have some upgrading...or outright replacement...Get all your permits soon..usually the health department will have to review the current septic to see if it meets current code..

2nd surprise many have...A-coil a/c units must be moved by licensed a/c personnel with freon recovery units...often this can cost about $400...

3rd surprise when much older homes were on the lot...electrical service often has to be upgraded for the needs of newer homes...new 200 amp service could cost about $700..

Some times forgotten...trip insurance...not many haulers have insurance for your home (cargo insurance)..all haulers have liability on their trucks...many have comprehensive on their truck..but not many have insurance on your home...check with your hauler and ask for a copy of the policy covering your home...If they do not have it...check out trip insurance to cover any damage to your home..

These are just a few of the common surprises I have seen....one other is zoning...I assume you have check the zoning laws before you bought the property...

Good Luck

Shelly
