anyone have a destiny home?
anyone have a destiny home?
My husband and I are seriously considering a destiny...subsidiary of Golden West which is, I believe, related to Oakwood Homes. We are impressed with the construction and stick built look of the homes. If you have any experience with this or other related brands I would love to here from you here in the forum. Thank you so much for your time.
Re: anyone have a destiny home?
Just ran across your message. I have lived in a Destiny for the last 11 years and would never own another one. Of course, the quality may have changed over the years (I certainly hope so!). But my experience with Destiny has been awful. It has to be the most inexpensively-made manufactured home ever made. It started falling apart within months and help from the manufacturer/dealer was non-existant.
Because of the particle board floors, there isn't a level spot in the house, with the flooring panels sagging between floor joists. The central heat/air system had to be replaced after 2 1/2 years. The exterior facia "wicked" water because (un-noticed by me until it was too late) it was made of fiberboard and was unpainted/unfinished on the back side. It literally fell apart with pieces falling off the front of the house! The home is so poorly constructed that drafts are so bad around windows and wall outlets that you can hold a lit candle next to one and it will be blown out. Wiping down the wallpaper with a damp sponge removed the printed pattern in some rooms. All the windows leak when it rains and the window sills have rotted out from the water. To close several interior doors in the house, you have to push with your shoulder as hard as you can against the doors to get them to close because the openings are so out of plumb. When you unplug an electrical cord from the wall outlets, you have to hold the outlet with one hand and pull the cord with the other or the entire outlet box comes out of the wall. From the plastic light fixtures and faucets to the cardboard-looking door trim and chair rail (the contact paper wood pattern peels off eventually) everything about this home is cheap, cheap, cheap! I could go on and on! It's a 3/2 with den and fireplace (which would never draw and could not be used) and at the over $35,000.00 price almost 12 years ago, I didn't consider it to be a "cheap" home. I actually passed up less expensive manufacturers to go with this company because of all the false claims made by the salesman. Within the past month, during a storm, a large pine tree fell on the home and there was extensive damage. I've settled with the insurance company and instead of using the money to repair this piece of junk, I've paid off the mortgage and have purchased a new home. After what I've lived with (and in) for the past 11 years, I knew what to look for and what to stay away from. I knew exactly what I wanted and if I went into a dealership that wasn't able or willing to fulfill my requirements, I moved on to the next. I finally found a "Homes of Merit" home. I'm very impressed by it's construction, look, warranty and quality. It should be delivered within the next month and I can't wait! As I said before, Destiny may have improved it's quality over the years, I don't know because I didn't even bother to look at them this time around. Good luck to you in your house hunting!

Re: anyone have a destiny home?
I am looking for Destiny Manufactored Housing phone number in Georgia or anywhere! I own a home frome them and after having some serious problems have found that the construction of the home is not whats on the comstruction diagram. There is floor joist spaced way too far apart and the trusses are not what was said; the siding is popping off and the shingles need to be replaced! The home is only 9 years old!
