Redman builds junk....

Post by Terry munroe » Sun Feb 22, 2004 1:32 am

To whom it may concern...I purchased a new 1987 redman mobile home from buddy's mobile home in jonesboro ga. Since the day we bought it we have had one problem after another...The roof leaked from the day we bought it and it would take weeks for them to come out to repair it...Which caused water spots on the ceiling..It had a 7 year warranty on the roof and they never fix the roof even though they came out a dozen times..And they would not fix the water spots on the ceiling....Finally we put a metal roof on out of our own pocket...We have had plumbing problems for 16 years...Which caused the floor to sag and we had to replace the wood and carpet on the floor in the entire home...The electrical system is a joke....Had to rewire most of the house...The windows are of the worst quality, having to replace all of them...They were put in wrong, and when you did get them to go up they cracked or would not come back down...Every thing that went wrong we had to fix and pay for out of our pocket...We i get ready to buy a home again it will not be a champion, redman mobile home...I will sleep outside in the mud in a tent before i EVER buy a champion mobile home....My mobile home started going bad the day they set it up and never honored there warranty.....DON'T BUY CHAMPION MOBILE HOMES.....

WHAT....you had to do maintenence on your 17 year old home................GEE..

Do you still have the cieling stains?????????????//

Cieling paint is on sale at Home Depot twice a year...34 times since you bought this home..

Matter of fact....I cannot remeber that far back...but I do not think Champion owned Redman at that time...could be wrong though..

That's a shame about your home. My in laws have a '84 doublewide & my Son has a '85 singlewide and we have a 2001 28x66, all Redman's and have had no problems with them. I will agree that the windows are very cheap in these homes, but I do believe that they probably all are in ANY manufacturer, unless you opt to upgrade. Redman now offers upgrades to Andersen Windows. After all these years, one can expect to have problems as you are, that is only normal, heck you'd have the problems in a stick build home. I love our Redman and would not hesitate at all to buy another Redman. Dealer also has a lot to do with repair issues, don't be so hasty to blame everything on the manufacturer.

Roof leaking when home was brand new. What? Water stains on ceilng no one would fix it.Plumbing problems and floor sagging. You had to rip up the carpet and replace the entire sub floor.Sorry about your luck! But what really blows me away is when all the other trailor owners come on and call this stuff maintenance.Sorry buddy thats not maintenance thats remodeling.Know way in hell you should expect those kind of problems in a seventeen year old home.Your windows wouldnt shut right and cracked .This went on for seventeen years. And you would never have these kind of problems with a stick built ,cookie cutter or not.And if you did ,you just take the builder to court. But 99 out of 100 times if the roof was leaking in a brand new house the builder would fix it without any trouble. He would also not just paint your water stained ceiling it would without a doubt be replaced along with the insulation that got wet.Defending these trailors because you own one,is like the guy who has a ford truck and puts ford stickers all over it and swares ford is the best, the next year he now owns a chevy and now he swares chevys are the best. These trailors are the cheapest type of housing because they are built with cheaper materials.Man you people are crazy!

What don't you visit WWW.hadd.com (Homeowners Against Deficient Dweellings) and see how wonderful those stick building contractors treat people who buy junk stick built homes. I think you will enjoy it and those contractors would like to me you as you are the uneducated person they like to deal with.

I was one of those uneducated people who bought a stick built home as were my nieghbors. Our stick built home fell apart after one about one year due to a mostly soil problems. Our home had a 20 year warrenty and I mistakenly assumed that because we financed our home with fha we were even more protection against contractor fraud-silly us. To make a long story short just let me tell you this. The consumer is going to have more controll and much more resources to enforce a warrenty problem with a mh then they ever could with a stick built home. In my research I often have a hard time believing people when they say "oh yeah, the mh people came and fixed---- some mostly cosmetic thing. This kind of service with a stick built home well I dont know of that happening-it doesnt mean it doesnt i just sort of doubt it. With all the regulations that are around the mh industry i am pretty confident that I am getting a safe and sound home. I think the key is making sure the sales office is a professionally ran office with people who know what they are doing-and dont try to hard sell you.
Imm very sorry for Mr. Terry Monroe, There is nothing worse then having one of your lifes biggest investments fall down around you and thus making it an unsafe home. I guess I just needed to put in my 2cents(maybe 21/2 cause this post is way to long!!). I just cant sit back and let people think that "dont worry its stick built"----and just so you know I am a terrible speller I know that dont tell me I didnt come to this board for spelling tips or to be insulted so yeah i am a bad speller but i can cook a mean pie so be nice and I'll have ya over for some ;-)
Just adding my thoughts so the next family wont have to go through the same hell mine did.

Jason posts all over the internet, anywhere anyone tries to defend either manufactured housing or those people who have chosen to live in them.

I don't know what his hidden agenda is but making blatant statements that he cannot possibly back up with facts does nothing for his credibility.

Personally, I am a consumer advocate and I believe that the purpose of sites such as the one I am posting on now are here to inform future home buyers of both the pitfalls and benefits of purchasing a manufactured home. The pitfalls would primarily be lack of knowlege about the product and purchasing process. When consumers have done their homework, have chosen the manufacturer and dealer based on their proven ability to deliver a quality home backed by quality service, they are rarely disappointed.

There will always be manufacturers and dealers that will take advantage of people.[ At least as long as there are buyers that will listen to what they WANT to hear instead of the truth].You cannot get too much education when you are preparing to make such an important purchase.

Jason claims to be a senior at Miami University, claims Dad is a RE attorney, and says he will follow in Dad's footsteps. According to him, Dad bought him a Jeep, and some trailer trash stole it.

Methinks instead he lost a deal in competition with a manufactured home, and has nothing better to do than practice typing. But that's just my opinion.
