Hi all,
our first year in our Karsten home is about complete - great house, only a couple of questions about coverage:
1. Decent floor squeak in MBR entrance. I could fix it, but they're the experts. We have Novadeck flooring, if that makes a difference.
2. Larger but not functional problem: This is a triple on a slab foundation with block perimeter (very nice). When the house was placed, the center section roof was higher than the other two by 1/4" or so. No big deal, except that it's clear that this house is in three pieces, and I worry slightly that the shingles involved may wear faster than the rest of the roof.
The fix, I believe, is to shim the difference. However, that's 120 lineal feet of shimming. The setup guys didn't volunteer to fix it. I personally wouldn't, until it's time to re-do the roof. What do you think?

By the way, the rest of the house has been great value for the price, and the setup guys did really nice and professional work, in mid-December.

Squeak is up to you if you want to call them...

The roof line is VERY minor and not out of the ordinary..I doubt it would be covered..

I can fix the squeak. I understand there are some fancy screws now which allow their head to be broken off after installation. Square-head trim screws always worked well.

I would recommend these guys, and will tell them so.

a lot of mh supply houses sell a part called squeak ender, which works well. as for the roof a 1/4 difference should not be that noticeable, if the shingles were finished correctly. most manufacturers setup manual will state for the installer to add one or two rows of shingles. with a metal flashing underneath. what happens is many times the exposure {amount of exposed shingle } will not match. for ex., the rest of shingles have a 5" exposure and then at joint the exposure will be different, this is usually what catches your eye and then with you knowing about 1/4 differnece if really stands out. my solution to this on triple sections was to start replacing 4 rows of shingles, i first put down a 24"inch flashing nailed every 2 inches, this wide of flashing helps float out or dissapate any noticeable difference in roof edges. then roof paper on top of that, then measure distance of roof needed to be covered , for example if 18 inches, divide by 4, giving an exposure of 4 and 1/2 inches per shingle . this is better than many times havibg one run of shingles with a 2" exposure. this makes the seam almost invisible. and an added not the use of architectural helps in this regard also. and i have the hardest to make diapear occurs in a white shingle roof.
