MH home heating system

Post by Shawn » Mon Oct 27, 2003 7:41 pm

I have a 1 year old MH home, my heat absolutley sucks. I'm not sure if its a draft issue or the system is insufficient. My house is only 1400sq ft and I have to keep my thermostat set at 75 degrees to get it to warm up to about 70 degrees, and my heat kicks on about every 6-8 minutes, which leads to a bad static problem. Any suggestions??

What kind of heat source do you have...Sounds like you have a heat pump...Am I right?

If it's a double wide, I've been told that it's the cross over that causes the house not to heat or cool very well on the side opposite of the direct ductwork run. Install ceiling fans.

I posted an answer on the other board, BUT..
since you say the system cycles every 10 minutes, the problem sounds like the thermostat is being heated up too quickly.

I suspect there is a heat register very close to the thermostat. Check to see if there is a register nearby. If so, either close that register or buy a deflector to move the heated air away from the thermostat.

My first house had a register directly below the thermostat, and I had the same problem.

Also, if one room is warmer than all the others, (usually the master, or room closest to the furnace), close the register in that room. It will still stay warm, and hopefully even out the temp in the rest of the house.

One year old home should still be under warranty, call dealer and ask for service. In lieu of that, ask them who does service on your brand of heater or just call heating companies in the yellow pages. You unit may just need to be "balanced" and the limiting switches adjusted, or it may be something in the electronical controls. Don't waste time, call an expert
