Ground preparation

Post by T. Jones » Tue Oct 21, 2003 11:59 pm

Hello.. My wife and I have purchased 10 acres in the Sacramento CA. area a little more than a year ago. The costs of getting the land ready for a site built home have been getting sucked up. We have been looking at modular home and have been happy with what we have seen. Where we want to put the MH is on a slope. Do we have to have the slope leveled off or can it be set up on stem walls on the slope. It is going to cost thousands to have the earth moved around and compacted. I sure would like to avoid these costs if we can. Any comments from experience would be greatly appreciated..

Other comments on negotiating price with the dealer would be helpful too.

Thanks
Tom

Each local situation is different...I do know setting the home up on a sever slope is also much more expensive...

Once you locate a dealer you are ready to deal with..compare the cost of land prep and the additional cost of setting a home this way...

Not all costs are monitary..Some others are aesthetic, usability (steps, deck..garages..) and how they might effect future resale value..

Good luck on your quest for a nice home..

Tom

Thanks Murray for your input. Something we need to consider.
