Palm Harbor Homes (poor service)

My wife and I bought our first home last year it was a Palm Harbor. It was probably the worst mistake we have made. We had problems getting moved in, we had problems betting everything fixed after we moved in. Now a year later the majority of our ceramic tiles are coming loose. Palm Harbor service wants to temporarly fix the problem (regional VP Sean Downing). I have received information both from Weyerhaeuser (subfloor) and Interceramic (tile manufacturer) as well as looking up tile installation through TCA handbook and ANSI all call for backerboard below the tile. The repair estimates are around $5,600.00 and we will have to be out of our home at least one week. Can anyone lead us in the right direction.

Bashing PH here will not help solve your problem...I believe your warranty suggests arbitration for those disputes that are not resolved....Have you8 tried mediation with the BBB...Have you filed a complaint in arbitration...These are much more likely to solve your problem...or let you know you are unrealistic in your demand...One way or the other..the process is described in your warranty..

R Murray,
I assume by seeing your other comments on this forum you are probably a dealer. The problem I have with the arbitration is how they get their money. It only benefits the manufacturer to take it to arbitration (in this case Palm Harbor Homes) , instead through the court where they would not fair as well. I am not sure if you live in a manufactured home, but am pretty sure the "higher ups" at Palm Harbor who probably do not, would not except the lack of quality that we have gotten in a home that they have purchased. Yes they pay much more. I do expect the quality and that it is built per other manufactures suggestions. Do not take that I am bashing you for I do not know you or the firm you work for or own. I work for a company that I have seen not only stand behind their warranty but, many times over has covered items outside the warranty. I see our customers come back year after year to purchase new product. If Palm Harbor and others stood behind their product alittle better they would not see the complaints here.

I am glad someone sees it more than a minor repair.

Because they have offered to repair the problem..but he has refused them the opportunity......
Yes the tile should have stayed on the floor...but they should also get the opportunity to fix the problem...

They offered to patch the problem. They have not offered to fix the problem. But you being a dealer do not know the difference. I did not refuse service I refused them trying to patch and not properly fix the problem. The floor was not properly installed and to secure the tiles that are loose now will not keep the others from coming loose. You need to know the whole story before you speak. You also need to look at it from the otherside instead of the greedy side of the manufactures and dealers. You might look at being more concerned about keeping customers happy and let them spread the word that you stand behind your product.

I am not here to argue...I am here to help...I know of NO manufacturer that offers tile installed that installs the way you suggest...I spent a little time looking into the installation instructions and recommendations...It is true manufacturers of the tile recommend what you are asking for.....BUT..they do not require it....PH installs the tile just like all the others in the business...and I have never had a problem...Obiously yours had some installation problem that they are willing to fix...If you want more..it is up to you to do the job...PH...or any manufacture is not required to fix things by your rules...only those that are REQUIRED by the manufacturer of the product...Now you have more recourse...through arbitration...MUCH better than the courts..because it takes lot less time at much lower costs...of course...IF you lose...you pay your fees...Somehow..you seem to think that arbitrators in your state are in cahoots with PH...I know a few arbitrators who would take that as a fighting words...Most arbitrators are retire judges...and need the fees like a hole in the head..
Like I said....you will never get your floor fixed here...If you really wanted that...you would have moved on by now...
Yes I am a salesperson at an independent dealership...Yes I have been in the business for 30 years...And yes...this web site is a commercial web site devoted to the manufactured home business..It is paid for by the sponsors here...And promoting the industry is the ultimate goal...You and others should feel lucky that the owner of the site allows these boards to have public posts....The owner feels that it is much better to serve the buying public with honest answers and help...Unfortunately there are a few like you who will not take good advice and try to solve a problem......Worse yet you seem intent on disparaging my motives...As if I have something to do with PH...quite the contrary...they are my direct competition..It would be to my direct advantage to beat up PH...If you read my posts..you will see I have taken on some manufacturers directly...But from only hearing your side of the story...I can see PH has done everything any manufacture would or could.....
I wish you luck....Your best course of action is to work with your factory...or take them on directly..thru all legal systems you have available...Good Luck
