Problems with retailer and manufacturer

Post by Gail Caruso » Mon Jun 23, 2003 11:33 am

I bought a Fleetwood home in April of this year. I have had continual problems with the retailer...they won't give me my purchase agreement, sales contract or spec sheet for my home. I have needed repairs done some which they did others not. I then went to Fleetwood to get some repairs but mostly what I have seen (and they have yet to prove me wrong) is they come out look and say they have to order parts then I don't hear a thing until I start calling and asking questions. The other problem is that the house across the street from me is the same exact house as mine. They paid $300.00 more than me but they got central air (they didn't even order it) my question for that is how can that happen??? I was told it would cost $2500 extra! Does anyone know of any good lawyers in Reading, PA who deal with this sort of thing..if so please let me know...I am sick and tired of going back and forth with these people and getting nowhere!

As far as the problems with the home goes just stay after them write to a local action line go there on a nice Saturday afternoon when they are busy and point out your displeasure and not in private.
As far as not getting the AC sounds like the neighbor made a better deal. I don't understand why they would not provide you with the spec sheet and you or your lender has a copy of the purchase agreement. Most states require that you be given a copy.

These people didn't even know they were getting air until they pulled up! They went thru the same BS as I did with not having the house completed when they moved in. I am in the works with the other paper work, but again I need the name of a good lawyer..there are more of us with my problems..and we are not happy!

You might try findlaw.com. You can do an attorney search there. They also have forums that you can search and maybe find some help.

A lawyer will cost you a lot of money. Before going down that road you might want to try to resolve your problems through the federal regulatory structure in place to protect the new manufactured home owner. You have already started the right way, because the regulators would expect that any complaints about the performance of your manufactured home that have not been resolved by the retailer where you purchased the home, should be reported to the manufacturer that produced the home. If the problems are left unresolved by the factory then you need to contact the state agency where you live that administers the federal manufactured housing code. You can find the contact information for your state's agency on this web site at www.manufactured-housing.net/saa It is important to provide the following information with your complaint: First write a numbered list of all the problems. After you have listed each problem then list the dates and names of the people at the dealership and the manufacturer that you spoke to about the problems. Then list the dates that service men came to your home and what they did during that visit. Also be sure to include:Your name, address and a telephone number where you can be reached during the day The name of the manufacturerThe serial number and model number of your homeThe HUD label number (the red tag on the back of the home)The date purchased The name of the retail business who sold you the home. Copies of any correspondence or contacts with the retailer and the manufacturer to resolve the problem. Make copies of your letter. Keep one and send a copy by Certified Mail Return Receipt to:-1- The Dealership where you purchased the home-2- The Manufacturer of the home-3- The Agency that regulates manufactured housing in your state. You can find the contact information for that agency on this web site at www.manufactured-housing.net/saa Please come back here and let us know how you make out. Good Luck.

I have already filed a complaint with the information you provided...the state has already come out to inspect the home. I have also filed with The State Attorney General and a few other organizations. But thank you very much for the advice!!

I filed a consumer complaint with the Wyoming States Attorney General's office against Fleetwood and the retailer to no avail. The complaint went unresolved for about two years. Copies of everything went to HUD. The complaint is closed now with no resolution whatsoever. I was told to go after the retailer. To which I wrote a letter back reminding the AG that the retailer was named in the complaint.

My home was purchased new in 1997. I have bulges at nearly every stud, walls are beginning not to meet the ceilings and floors, etc. The home has been checked to see if it's level and it is.

I was told about a year and a half after I bought my home by the retailers "work coordinator" that my home had been wrecked during transport. I cannot find any details either way. Fleetwood denies this and the retailer pulled out of here in 2000 and no one seems to know where my records are. And, of course, I have been denied access to my records.

Did the State Attorney general help you?

No, the Wyoming State Attorney General's office basically turned out to be a mail forwarder. Fleetwood and the retailer pointed fingers at each other and the AG's office turned out to be absolutely worthless.

Go to this site.

http://www.inventpa.com/default.aspx?id=168 and go from there.
I've been through it, am going through it & it isn't a quick process but go there.
