Terry,
It's not fair to put all Champion Homes in one category. Champion owns many different brands, built in many different states. Each brand is built with different standards depending on the parts of the country they are in. And lets face facts, Champion has "Low End" as well as "High End" homes. A Southern built low end home will not be the same quality as a Northern built low end home. Insulation will be different, thus wall thickness will be different, wind zone rating are different as well as heat zone requirements are different. Each Champion owned Brand is responsible for their own warranty. Just because a Redman company screwed you over, does not mean that you would be treated the same with a SilverCrest, or a Dutch home or a Comander Home.

If you had done your homework before you purchased, you could have checked up on the dealer, and the manufacturer.

I also ask the same question as Jonathan. I see the thread drifting towards maintenance, which I know is required on everything, including a car...

What he, and now I, are asking is what would you recommend in a mobile/manufactured home. My son is considering purchasing one for the convenience of not having to go through the stick built, general contractor, or log home kit headaches.

I have reviewed many mfd homes for him including Marrilot, Shult, Guerdon, and a host of others. We are in Montana, so the better built the better it can take on the winds, gravel roads getting to the site, (by the way we haven't found a 2x8 floor. They are all 2x6), etc. He will be putting it on a permanent foundation, either 4' craw or full basement.

I found the Guerdon seemed solid. Very solid. When I walked into the Guerdon I could "hear" a difference....It had furniture, so did other models. It just felt like a stick built home. My voice didn't seem to echo as it did in other homes with the same furniture and carpet/vinyl flooring. What gives?

If you manufactured home owners were to do it all over again WHAT home would you buy and why?
Thank you in advance for the information.
Peg
