Hi Joann,
We lived in Sarasota, in Emerald Gardens (sort of "right around the corner from Camelot") for approx 5 years. Sarasota is about the only place I would live if I were going to live in FL. It was, and is still I'm sure, a growing area. It is a nice area with culture and if you are a beach going person, you will really love Siesta Key Bch. The only thing I would say if you can't take the humidity and heat, you will NOT like it. Before we moved to Sarasota, we also lived in Englewood for 5 years. The 90's begin around May and last until mid October. You can sort feel the heat "break" around then. The winter is beautiful. Sunny and mostly around 60 to 70 in the daytime. Tourist season (approx. Nov 1 to Easter) can make the place feel very crowded. I get that feeling here in South Jersey in the summer.
My family loved Florida, the kids went fishing and swimming, etc. I had too many allergies and asthma. We moved back to NJ several years ago for that and other reasons. We are planning on moving into a manufactured home, probably in Las Vegas or Arizona for retirement.
Good luck to you.
Lucy
P.S. There are websites for the area that you may want to surf.

Re: Horror stories
We are from NJ and "bought" a PH unit in Park Place MHC in Sebastian, Florida for delivery in Dec. 2004. We signed the contract June 29, 2004 and we are still waiting to make settlement on our home. In the beginning they told us the delay was due to hurricanes, labor shortage, etc. Now we find out they didn't apply for the permit until May 2005. Now we are supposed to be waiting for AC units and permits to install them etc, etc. The actual contractual delivery date was June 29, 2005 but we are now told Aug. 8, 2005.
